Emily is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology, University of Exeter, working within the Clinical Mycology theme of the NIHR Exeter BRC.

Her current BRC-funded project focuses on developing lung organoids from cystic fibrosis (CF) patients to study how the immune system responds to co-infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Aspergillus fumigatus. Using these 3D models, Emily is investigating how these pathogens interact with each other and with host cells in the CF lung, aiming to identify immune pathways that could lead to new treatments. Her wider research explores host–microbe interactions at barrier sites, especially the gut-lung axis and fungal immunology.

Emily is passionate about translational science that connects experimental infection models with real-world clinical relevance, and she works closely with clinicians and respiratory biologists to support research that benefits people with CF and other chronic lung conditions.
