Raman spectroscopy in breast cancer surgery

Rehabilitation

Summary

I collaborate with the Biophysics group (Prof Nick Stone), using laser light to differentiate between tissue types (Raman spectroscopy). I plan to develop my previous work using Raman spectroscopy towards clinical applications that will directly benefit patients.

How are we doing it?

This will be done by co-ordinating a multi-disciplinary study, looking at all aspects of Raman spectroscopy – from the basic science, to patients views and perceptions on new medical technologies.

What happens next?

Once established that the technique has good accuracy, I plan to establish a clinical trial to see if it can improve patient care.
