Precision medicine in diabetes and chronic kidney disease: building a cohort for targeted kidney protection treatment

Diabetes

Summary

We are developing a prediction model to identify people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who would benefit most from kidney protection treatment, using UK electronic health records.

How are we doing it?

We will create a large UK CKD cohort using routine healthcare data (from the Clinical Practice Research Datalink; CPRD), then combine clinical data, validated risk scores, and trial evidence to build the prediction model.

What happens next?

This cohort will provide an excellent resource for further research on treatment benefit prediction across different treatments and outcomes in people with CKD. We will make the data processing pipeline publicly available so other researchers can benefit from this too.
