Dr Jane Usher is Senior Lecturer in Medical Mycology at the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology (MRC CMM), University of Exeter. Her research focuses on antifungal drug resistance, with a particular emphasis on Candida species and the genetic mechanisms driving resistance and collateral sensitivity. Working in collaboration with the NIHR Exeter Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), Dr Usher leads projects that aim to develop innovative strategies—such as drug combinations and cycling therapies—to counteract resistance and improve clinical outcomes. Her broader work integrates genomics, experimental evolution, and bioinformatics to better understand fungal pathogenesis and inform global antimicrobial stewardship efforts.
