Genetics and Genomics
Deficiencies in information and decision support have been identified for carriers of an inherited cancer predisposition. Patient experiences with personalised cancer risk communication and shared decision-making have been sub-optimal.
Previous research and PPIE during my PhD led to co-design of Lynch Choices. Lynch Choices is a trusted, central source of information with embedded support links and theory-based decision aids. Research will investigate the effectiveness of using Lynch Choices compared to usual care. Outcomes such as decision regret and satisfaction will be assessed.
Implementation evaluation studies will follow, to explore the uptake of Lynch Choices and identify any barriers. Lynch Choices will be adapted for use in other cultures and the template website will be used as a baseline to co-design decision aids for other genes and other cancer risk management choices, such as risk-reducing mastectomy for BRCA carriers.
