Rehabilitation
This research aims to understand the rehabilitation needs of people living with Lewy body dementia and their carers. These insights, combined with contributions from key stakeholders, will inform the design of a tailored rehabilitation intervention to enhance participation, wellbeing and quality of life.
The project follows the Medical Research Council framework for developing and evaluating complex interventions and uses a mixed-methods approach across four stages. It will begin with a rapid realist review of the existing evidence, followed by qualitative interviews with people living with Lewy body dementia, carers and healthcare professionals to explore rehabilitation needs and experiences.
Findings from these stages will inform the co-design of a tailored rehabilitation intervention in partnership with public and patient contributors. Finally, the intervention will be tested in a small feasibility study delivered in collaboration with NHS services to evaluate its practicality and acceptability.

This research is funded by the Alzheimer’s Society and is a part of the doctoral training centre for Lewy body dementia. Hosted by Professor Louise Allan and co-funded by BRC at University of Exeter.
