Prof. Thomas Lehrnbecher is Professor of Pediatrics and since 2018 the Head of the Department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology of the Goethe-University, Frankfurt, Germany. He has trained in the Children´s Hospital in Würzburg, Germany, and at the Pediatric Oncology Branch of the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, USA. His clinical and laboratory research focuses on infectious complications in children with cancer, the development of immunotherapeutic strategies against invasive fungal infections in hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients, and the interaction of host immune cells and fungi.

He chaired until January 2026 the sections “Infection in the immunocompromised child” of both the German Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and the German Society of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology, and, until 2016, the working group “Supportive Care” of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology. Between 2018 and 2026, he was a member of the international council of the Immunocompromised Host Society.

Prof. Brian T. Fisher, DO, MPH, MSCE, is a Professor of Pediatrics and Epidemiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Senior Scholar within the UPENN Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Faculty Member of Clinical Futures, and Associate Chair of Research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He serves as the Chair of the Infectious Disease Sub-Committee within the Children’s Oncology Group and the Co-Director of the Pediatric Fungal Network.

His specific area of research focus is the prevention and management of opportunistic infections in children with malignancy and recipients of hematopoietic cell transplantation with an overarching goal of reducing infection related mortality and optimizing the quality of life for this patient population.
