A student who spent the summer working with the NIHR Exeter Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) has received an award recognising the impact of her research placement.
Gurnoor Kaur received the Transformational Experience Award at the Health Data Research UK (HDR UK)–Wellcome Biomedical Vacation Scholarship celebration event. The award recognises how a placement has shaped a student’s skills, aspirations and future career plans.
Gurnoor was one of five students hosted by Exeter BRC through the scholarship programme this summer. She began her placement with limited coding experience and developed a strong range of technical skills during her time with the team.
Across the five placements, students gained practical experience in health data science and contributed to research in diabetes, cardiovascular health, genetics, neurodegeneration and stroke. The programme gives students an opportunity to develop research skills, build confidence working with health data and explore careers in biomedical research.
