Haiye completed his MSc in Physiotherapy at Cardiff University and joined the University of Exeter in 2025 as a PhD student supported by the NIHR Exeter Biomedical Research Centre. His PhD project focuses on developing a novel assessment of abdominal wall function before and after ventral hernia surgery.

As part of this work, he is conducting an international Delphi study with clinicians and researchers, together with a patient survey, to establish consensus on how abdominal wall function should be defined, its key components, and which aspects should be assessed in research and clinical practice. His wider PhD work involves reviewing existing approaches to assessing abdominal wall function and developing and evaluating suitable assessment methods for people undergoing hernia surgery.
